Summer Tanagers in North Mississippi

well lads and lassies, wonderful news, there is a Summer Tanager family nesting on our land. Strikingly pretty birds, the male is bright red and the female a sort of greenish yellow. I've seen then for over a month now, always together, in the bird path, on the ground among the sunflower seeds I put out.

Although this is a year old post Mr. McCain we here in Pinson, AL., saw a male Summer Tanager this Easter Sunday! We have never observed one in this area. He was a wonderful smile on our Easter family gathering!

I saw a male tanager - beautiful bright red all over! - in my backyard on May 4, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I had never seen one before and had to lookup what kind of bird it was. I hope I see one again...

I was looking at my bee hives this morning and saw a male summer tanager pecking at the entrance. I thought it was a cardinal at first but when I looked through binoculars realized o had never seen that kind of bird before in Iowa City, Iowa. It almost looked like he was eating the bees.

We have a male Tanager the is about to drive us crazy! We live on Lake Tillery in Moutn Gilead , NC and the bird pecks on our windows continuously. I put up bird netting over the windows but it didn't stop. It is the most annoying little creature ever! Yesterday we saw the female for the first time. Any ideas on how to get them to leave?

Summer Tanager just flew right by my head and landed in the shrubs by my front door. Turned it's head from side to side as I told him how lovely he was. Almost think we would have come in the house with me if I'd offered him some nice cool air to rest in. Austin, Tx. June 15, 2011 102 degrees.

We have a male and female tanager couple at our house in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The male is not shy at all! Every morning and every evening he can be found following us to our garden where he chooses a tree where he can watch and sing to us. The female is a bit more shy but I was able to see her last night in a bird bath from about ten feet away.

We've had the the Summer Tanagers come to our yard for two summers now in Perry, Ks. The male does not seem shy at all...almost follows me from tree to tree as I walk through the yard! The female on the other hand seems to hide in the branches. I hope to see their babies someday!

We have one here in Missouri, on our place in the woods. We love him, but I worry that he is going to wear himself out hitting the windows. We think he sees his reflection and thinks he is fighting off a competitor!

We have two in our yard this year--never seen them here before--and they are constantly flying up to and attacking our windows...tap-tap-tap...all day long! So far they have been at it for six days!! Searcy, AR

Funny. He think he sees a competitor and is trying to attack it.
